Superhero stories are everywhere. From comics to movies to TV shows, the genre has grown into something massive, with countless characters, universes, and interpretations of what it means to be a hero.
So when creating an original comic, the question isn't just: “How does one make a superhero story?” It's: “How does one make a story that stands out and actually means something?”
The answer emerges from the combination of inspiration and intention—drawing on elements from enjoyed stories and creating something that explores deeper themes in a unique manner.
The Stories That Shaped Perspective
Like many creators, Spidercade's Zero Hour Epsilon Force did not emerge from nothing.

It was largely shaped by:
Superhero stories with high-stakes action
Bible stories
TV shows and cartoons that balanced serious moments with lighthearted ones
Characters who struggled just as much internally as they did externally
Some stories focus heavily on big battles and power scaling, fast-paced action and clear-cut good vs evil conflicts. Others take time to explore character development, emotional struggles and moral decisions.
Observing both approaches has influenced the understanding of storytelling in Spidercade's universe. While action can capture attention, it is often the meaning behind the action that helps maintain audience engagement.
Where Spidercade's Comic Takes a Different Approach
Instead of choosing one style, Zero Hour Epsilon Force blends multiple elements together.

1. Jesus as a Core Theme
While comic series is full of superheroes, mythical creatures, aliens, robots and various kinds of fantastical and science fiction elements, one of the biggest differences between Spidercade's universe and others is that it's a Christian universe.
This influences how characters think, the choices they make and how they respond to challenges
While not necessarily every story will have a Christian theme, the overall universe is one where Jesus isn’t just referenced, he's part of the foundation and the center of it all amongst all of the action, monsters and high stakes battles.
2. Real Action and High Stakes
Much like many of the superhero stories that inspired it, Zero Hour Epsilon Force, despite being set in a Christian universe, is full of real action and high stakes. The characters fight for real,
sometimes brutally.
The villains are not small, just symbolic, or necessarily responsive to just being talked to. They're galactic threats that conquer and oppress, seek power and destroy worlds. And they have to be dealt with like how many superheroes, or even heroes in the Bible like Samson and David, deal with these kinds of villains and threats. See the demon villain here as one example of the kinds of villains that exist here.
And situations like these are often when a hero's faith can truly and genuinely be tested.
3. Growth Through Struggle, Not Just Victory
A lot of superhero stories focus on winning.
While this is no different in Zero Hour Epsilon Force, growth also comes from struggles such as failure, pain and internal conflict.
Characters aren’t defined only by what they accomplish, but by what they go through as well, whether that's physically, mentally or spiritually. Their struggles shape who they become over time.
4. Impactful Themes and Real World Messages

Like most other superhero stories, Zero Hour Epsilon Force is designed to entertain with its fast paced, action-packed and high stakes battles. But as a series that takes place in a raw Christian universe, one of Spidercade’s other goals is to make a genuine and relatable impact.
It’s not just about entertainment, empowering or motivation, but also about telling people about Jesus in ways they are likely to resonate with. This is done by my mixing in real situations, often historical, to help show the reason why God sent Jesus to save us from our sins and eternal punishment if we repent and accept him as our Lord and Savior.
While early issues of Zero Hour Epsilon Force are more niche and designed to resonate more with the Black and Indigenous communities, the series is gradually expanding to include more universal struggles that more readers can relate to like medical ailments for example.
The upcoming Issue 5 will touch on this in full. This is also so the series can show that God cares about real life struggles even though it may seem like he’s distant sometimes.
5. A World That Builds Over Time

Instead of revealing everything at once, the story in Zero Hour Epsilon Force unfolds gradually.
There are:
Fun subtle hints about future events through the use of foreshadowing
Character arcs that develop over more than one issue
Elements that become more important over time
This allows the story to feel layered, intentional and rewarding to readers who pay attention or go back and reread.
That being said, having unexpected moments that nobody really sees coming can be fun as well if they're incorporated correctly.
Inspiration vs Identity
Being inspired by other stories doesn’t mean copying them. It means learning what works and then trying to build something new from it.
Inspiration provides answers to questions such as:
What makes a character memorable?
What makes a story meaningful?
What keeps readers coming back?
But identity comes from:
The themes the story chooses
The perspective the story brings
And the message behind the story
This is where Zero Hour Epsilon Force becomes its own thing instead of just trying to fit in some kind of generic box or label. And that's always been the goal.
Why This Approach Matters
Today’s audiences are sometimes looking for more than just entertainment.
They want stories with depth, characters they can relate to and themes that actually mean something. By combining action, faith, real struggles and different perspectives, the goal to creating an entertaining story that connects on more than just a surface level can be achieved.
Final Thoughts: More Than Just Another Superhero Story
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with traditional superhero stories—they’ve inspired generations. But there’s also room for something different.
A story that:
Blends inspiration with originality
Explores deeper themes
Challenges characters internally
That’s the goal behind this comic series.
Not just to entertain—but to create something that stays with the reader long after the story ends.
